Ben’s going over the Alps!

Last Wednesday LCC was pleased to host our very own private premiere of UN(CONQUERED). The film depicts club member Ben Spencer and his story after discovering he was suffering from ataxia.

Since his diagnosis he has worked hard to publicise the work of Ataxia UK by his many exploits raising money in aid of the charity.

This began with Ben photographing all the London Underground stations (272),

surfacing at each stop to photograph them from the outside, to show just how hard it is to negotiate the service as a disabled traveller.

Before having to use a wheelchair full time Ben walked  - with the aid of sticks and a wheeled walking frame - to the summit of Snowdon, a journey taking sixteen hours to complete.

This year he completed the London Marathon and has the medal to prove it!

Ben  has a new escapade planned for the summer. Along with Peter Smorthit they both hope to be the first wheelchair users to push themselves over the Alps.

Following a suggestion by club member, Danny Hanson, members of LCC had a collection raising over six hundred pounds to help Ben with the cost of a new wheelchair and the expenses associated with the trip.

About us

We are a friendly group of like minded individuals with an enthusiasm for all things photographic. The club meets at 8.00pm on Wednesdays, at Lopping Hall, 189 High Road, Loughton, Essex IG10 4LF. We meet in the Small Hall downstairs.

Lopping Hall has disabled access.

We welcome all with an interest in photography. Our members’ experience starts from beginners through to professional level.

Images we create include landscapes, natural history, portraits, street reportage, abstract, macro, studio and everything
in-between. See Members’ Galleries on this site.

Mainly digital (and rarely some film formats) are used with plenty of members on hand to offer help and advice on technical and

artistic judgement.

Our members improve their skills and knowledge from workshops, guest speakers and each other. For more information download a copy of: A Guide to Loughton Camera Club
